The new TOS only applies to posts made after a member has accepted the new terms of service. If a thread is still active that began before December 1, 2009 and contains posts that do not abide by the new TOS, members may or may not be contacted depending on the severity of the non-compliance. Naming specific adoption professionals, adoption agencies, etc. Bethany no longer allows adoption professionals or agencies to be named or linked to on the public forums; organizations can be referenced only in a neutral statement. This is in response to multiple complaints regarding the lack of consistency in editing posts about specific adoption professionals and only allowing positive comments about Bethany. If a member has helpful information that includes specific information about another adoption agency or professional, they are welcome to reference their blog where more information can be located. Links to personal websites Links to blogs and other personal websites can be posted in a regular posting but not in a signature line. The “www” button was turned off and members are asked to remove links in their signatures lines. This is in response to members abusing this feature for advertising and selling purposes. Also, it is important to note links are not allowed in signature lines because moderators are asked to review, moderate and edit posts, whereas members maintain their signature lines. Identifying information Bethany is asking members to be considerate of sharing other people's details where an invasion of privacy could occur. Prayer requests for other people should respect their privacy, therefore not identify full names or give medical information. A personal story is certainly allowed to provide details, including your own medical information. However, adoption stories should not name a specific agency or worker, but members are welcome to link to their personal website where more specific details are stated. Fri Nov 06, 2009 1:05 pm Updated Terms of Service Bethany has been working to revise the Terms of Service (TOS) to provide more clear and comprehensive guidelines for our valued members of these forums. We are pleased to announce the final draft is now posted! View them here. While we recognize there is some language from a legal standpoint, the new TOS should provide a better understanding for issues such as commenting on an agency, the use of photos, and providing links in signatures (websites can not be posted in signature lines, but can be included in regular posts). This should also allow Bethany and the forum moderators to be consistent when reviewing posts on the forums. In one week on Friday, November 13, the forums will be taken down for a scheduled update on the forum software. Members will be unable to access the forums from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. EST. In two weeks on Friday, November 20, members will be asked to agree with the new TOS before they are able to continue logging in. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
